Deoria Tal Chopta Chandrashila Trek is a rare trek that you can do throughout the year. It offers different shades of colour in different seasons.

In the winter season, you will find the whole trek full of snow. Whereas during the spring, the red and pink colour rhododendron flower covers the trail. In summer, the forest and meadows are lush green. And in the autumn season, the trek bloom in yellow colour.

Deoria Tal Chopta Chandrashila Trek is famous for its magnificent Deoria Tal and scenic Chopta.

The lake is located at an altitude of 7998.6 ft in the Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary. And offers you a stunning view of the might Chaukmba Peak, which you can spot in the backdrop of the lake. During the clear morning, you can also see the reflection of Chaukmba Peak in the Deoria Tal Lake.

The forest surrounding the Deoria Tal lake is perfect for spotting the famous Himalayan birds. You will find plenty of them. If you are a bird lover, then this trek is a treat for you. During winters, the lake is surrounded by 2-3 feet of snow, which completely change the aura of the lake. And make it the perfect destination for winter trekking.

Apart from the lake, the trek offers you the opportunity to explore the mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand. That is Chopta. It is famous for its lush green meadows and the Himalayan Views. Over the years, Chopta has become one of the major tourist attractions in Uttarakhand.

The trek also makes you climb to the Tungnath temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world at 12073 ft. Trekking to this temple and taking blessings of diety at such a high altitude is an experience of a lifetime.

Above the temple lies the famous Chandrashila Peak at 1233ft. It offers you a beautiful 360-degree view of the Himalayan Peaks. From the summit of Chandrashila, you can spot the mighty Gangotri Peaks, Mt Thalaysagar, Kedarnath Peak, Kedar dome and Mandani Parbat. You can also spot India’s tallest mountain, Nanda Devi.

Apart from these, Mt. Nanda Ghunti, Mt Trishul and Chaukhamba are also visible. Viewing such a wide range of Himalayan peaks from one place is a memorable experience.


Day 1: Rishikesh To Sari Village

  • Drive from Rishikesh To Sari Village

Your thrilling journey will start from the holy town of Rishikesh. You, along with other trekkers, gather at Tapovan around 7 am. Here, our team members will meet you and complete all formalities. After that, you will board the vehicle and depart for Sari Village.

The journey will pass through the famous Devprayag. Here, the two mighty rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, meet to form the holy Ganga. In the local language, this confluence of rivers is called Sangam. It’s a treat to witness the confluence of two rivers at Devprayag. Absorb yourself in the magical surroundings of Sangam and take blessings of the holy Ganga before your trek.

From Devprayag, you continue your journey traversing through the beautiful mountains of Gharwal. This adventurous journey will end at the small Sari Village in the evening.

At Sari Village, our team members will meet you and guide you further. After settling in the hotel, explore the surrounding Sari village. It’s host to some traditional gharwali houses and many well-laid paddy fields. Meanwhile, you will also meet villagers with happy faces, always ready to welcome you.

As it gets dark, return to the hotel for a briefing session by your Trek Leader.

Day 2: Sari Village To Deoria Tal

  • Trek from Sari to Deoria Tal.  
  • Time Taken: 2.5 hrs 
  • Trek Distance – 3 Km 
  • Accommodation: Tents 
  • Altitude: 6,600 ft to 7,800 ft 

Your day 2 will start with a beautiful sunrise and delicious breakfast. After breakfast, you will start the trek towards Deoria Tal.

The trail from Sari Village to Deoria Tal is easy to climb. And it takes 3 hours to complete it.

From Sari market, you start trekking on a well-laid stone trail. As you continue, you can see the scenic Sari Village below. And Chandrashila Peak on the top of the mountain in front of you. After some time, you will also come across an ancient temple. Visit the temple premises and take the blessings of God. The climb from here will slowly get steeper and continue till Deoria Tal.

On the way, you enter the Oak and Rhododendron forest sections. Here you come across a variety of flora and fauna, especially Himalayan birds. Watching these colourful birds is a treat.

You will reach the Deoaria Tal camp as you walk towards the end of the trail. At Deoria Tal, once you settle in the camps, you will be served delicious lunch. Then post-lunch, you have a whole evening to explore Deoria Tal and its surrounding.

As you walk close to the lake, you will be stunned by the view of the Himalayan peak in the backdrop of Deoria Tal.

During winter, the lake is frozen and surrounded by 2-3 feet of snow. It looks like a wonderland. Being at such a scenic spot impacts you from inside. You feel more energetic, happy and peaceful.

Deoria Tal is also a great place for Bird lovers. You will see many birds species flying and humming around you. After exploration, you return to camps for dinner under the sky full of stars.


Day 3: Deoria Tal To Rohini Bugyal To Baniyakund (Chopta)

  • Trek From Deoria Tal to Baniyakund (Chopta) via Rohini Bugyal.
  • Time Taken: 7, 8 Hrs 
  • Trek Distance – 15 Km 
  • Accommodation: Tents/Guest House
  • Altitude: 7,800 ft to  8,500 ft   

On this day, you start the trek early as it will be a long day. From Deoria Tal campsite, you move towards the lake and pass it from the left side. Then you reach a watchtower and enter the forest.

The forest from here is full of Rhododendron and maple trees. During spring, you see lovely red and pink colour flower all around on the rhododendron trees. On crossing the forest, you will reach a small clearing. From here, you can clearly see the Kedar Dome and Chaukhamba Peak on your left side.

Continue to walk on this clearing section, and after that, you reach a ridge. It’s the spot with a valley view on both sides with Chandrashila Peak in front of you. You pass this ridge and start descending to enter a dense forest again. The forest provides you with lot’s of shade from the day sun. And you will spot many species of Himalayan birds.

Once you pass the forest section, you start ascending and reach a point with three divergent. The left diversion will take you towards Sari Village, and the right path will take you towards Ukhimath. But you will take the trail in front, which will take you to Rohini Bugyal.

You will move ahead towards Rohini Bugyal. Rohini Bugyal is a lush green meadow with a scenic view of Kedardome and Kala Parvat Peak. You spend some time at this spot, enjoying the Himalayan views around. After that, you continue on the ridge and cross Bhrujgali.

After that, you will descend into the forest and reach a small river crossing. You cross the river through a small bridge and start climbing.

This climb will take you to a small meadow. On this meadow, you will find many shepherd huts, which they use during summer. You continue your trek from here and enter a dense forest. This forest is the last section of your thrilling adventure. After crossing the forest section, you will reach the Baniyakund campsite.

Day 4: Baniyakund To Tungnath To Chandrashila Top And Return To Sari Village

  • Trek from Baniyakund to Tungnath and Chandrashilla Top. Then return to Sari base camps.

  • Time Taken:  10 Hrs 

  • Trek Distance – 8 Km 

  • Altitude: 8500 ft to 13,000 ft

  • Accommodation: Tents

You start the day early to reach Chandrashila Peak for a sunrise view. From Chopta, you climb on the well-laid stone path. The path at the starting is steep with many bends. As you continue climbing these bends, you can see the snow-capped Himalayan peaks in front and Chopta Valley below.

After crossing the bends in 3 hours, you reach the Tungnath temple. It’s the world highest Shiva temple. During winters, expect heavy snow on the temple premises. That is the reason you find the temple gates closed in winter.

Post visiting the temple, continue to climb towards the Chandrashila Peak. The peak is 1.5 km above the temple, and it takes an hour to reach it. During winter, this whole trail is covered under the snow. And trekking on this section on snow is a thrilling experience.

On reaching the Chandrashila Peak, you come across a small Shiva temple. And have a 360-degree view of the mighty Himalayas. Some of them are Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Kamet, Dunagiri, Chaukhamba, Kedar dome, Thalaysagar, Gangotri ranges, Jahanukut and more.

Experience and absorb the beautiful view for some time. And then head back to Chopta via the same route. After reaching Chopta, you move to Sari Village for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Sari Village to Rishikesh

  • Drive back from Sari base camp to Rishikesh 
  • Distance- 190 Km
  • Time Taken: 8 Hours

You will reach Rishikesh by 5 pm, so you can book your further travel after 6 pm.

Backpack Offloading 

Hike Brothers expects all trekkers to carry their own backpacks. But, if you wish to offload your backpack, you can offload on mule by paying charges. 

  • Charges – Rs 700 for the full trek.  
  • The backpack can’t weigh more than 10 kgs.  
  • Suitcases/strollers/duffel bags will not be allowed.  
  • Backpack should have a waterproof cover. 

Cancellation Policy

The following refund shall be payable to the user in case of valid cancellation of a booking:

  • If the cancellation request is received before 30 days from the commencement of the trek, then the whole amount paid for the trek will be refunded.
  • In case the cancellation request is received within 20 to 30 days from the commencement of the trek, then 75% of the trek cost shall be refunded.
  • When the cancellation request is received between 10 to 20 days from the commencement of the trek, 50% of the trek cost shall be refunded.
  • In cases where the cancellation request is not received before 10 days from the commencement of the trek Hike Brothers shall not be liable to pay any refund.
  • Cancellation for booking made within 10 days of departure date will not be liable for any refund.


  • Change of batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
  • In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements put forward by Hike Brothers.
  • Hike Brothers hold the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice.


  1. Is this trek meant for beginners like me?
    Yes, Deoria Tal Chopta Chandrashila Trek is perfect for beginners. Because it’s an easy grade trek.
  2. What food will be provided to me?
    You will be provided vegetarian food with eggs. Because vegetarian food gets easily and quickly digested in comparison to non-veg food. 
  3. What will be the batch size?
    In a group, there will be a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 15 trekkers.
  4. Are there any washroom/toilet facilities?
    Yes, at the campsite, toilet tents will be provided.
  5. Will there be cellular networks?
    At Sari Village, which is the starting point of the trek, all networks are available. On the trek route and campsite, Jio and Bsnl networks are available but not at every point.
  6. Is this trek safe for female trekkers?
    Yes, this trek is completely safe for females. Because before trek Hike Brothers team ensure
    all the staff members are properly interviewed, their background and documents are verified and they are trained to conduct themselves well with all trekkers
  7. What is the age limit?
    The minimum age is 10 Years. However, minors aged between 10-17 years should be accompanied by parents or guardians. There is no limit on maximum age but if you exceed 60 years, carry a fitness certificate from your Doctor.
  8. Is alcohol allowed?
    Drinking alcohol is not allowed throughout the trek. Because when you drink alcohol your body gets dehydrated and your get ill. This situation can be life-threatening for you on the trek.
  9. When can I Book the trek?
    You can book the trek until 7 days before the departure date. But you are advised to book the trek as soon as possible, as there will be limited seats for the trek.
  10. How to book the trek?
    You will find a Book Now tab on the trek page just below the trek fee. Click on the tab, fill the registration form and pay the trek fee.
  11. Can I customize the trek?
    Yes, you can customize the trek but there should be at least five people.
  12. What things should I pack for this trek?
    Once you book the trek, our team will guide you and send a packing list as per the season.
  13. What type of trekking shoes are required for this trek?
    Basic trekking shoes which have high ankle, good sole and are water-resistant.
  14. During a snow trek, what will be provided to me?
    You will be provided Gaiters and microspikes, for trekking on snow
  15. Can I rent out trekking gear?
    For renting, please confirm with our team at the time of booking.
  16. Can I keep extra luggage at the base camp?
    Yes, you can keep extra luggage in Sari Village base camp.

How To Reach Rishikesh ?

To reach Rishikesh, you have three options.

  1. Flight
  2. Train
  3. Bus
  • If you are planning by flight, then the first option is you can directly fly to Dehradun Airport, Jolly Grant. It is well connected by flights from major cities. From Dehradun Airport, Rishikesh is 18.3 km. At the airport, you can take a taxi to Rishikesh. It will cost you around Rs. 800 to Rs.1000. You can also take an auto or bus if you walk 1.5 km from the airport to Dehradun Rishikesh Highway. The auto and bus fares range from Rs.30 to Rs.50.
    In case you find this option costly, then you can take a flight to Delhi. And then board a bus or train to Rishikesh or Haridwar. Rishikesh is 26 km from Haridwar and takes 45 min- 1 hr by bus. Please reach Rishikesh a day before your pickup day. 
  • In case you are planning by train, then look for a train till Hardiwar or Rishikesh. And make sure you reach a day before your pickup day. From Delhi, you can take Jan Shatabdi in the afternoon till Haridwar. It generally runs on time. 
  • If you are planning by bus from Delhi, then you have lots of options. From Kashmiri Gate ISBt, lots of buses depart for Rishikesh every hour. And it takes 6 hours to reach Rishikesh. You are advised to book your bus online and book only Uttarakhand Transport buses as they are safe. You can book them online at – https://utc.uk.gov.in/.

Stay Option

  • Zostel (https://www.zostel.com/zostel/rishikesh/rishikesh-20-rshh498/) is a good option. It is a backpackers hostel and provides rooms and beds. Per bed, charges start from Rs. 400 and per-room from 1200.
