Chirbatiya is a picturesque tiny hamlet in the Gharwal range of the Himalayas. It is located in the Hindu pilgrimage route of Badrinath Yatra. The village receives a large number of tourists heading to Badrinath and Kedarnath.
Chirbatiya village is also the base of Patangniya Top Trek. Patangniya is the name of the grassland you visit during the trek. It is an easy weekend trek and completely unexplored till now.
The Patangniya Top trek is a complete package for the weekend. It has dense forests trails, dominated by pine, oak and rhododendron trees. Apart from the forest, it has also lush green meadows and a small lake.
One of the biggest attractions of this trek is the view of the peaks of the Gharwal Himalayas. You can spot Mrigthuni, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Chang-Bang, Dronagiri, Neelkanth, Chaukhamba and Kedarnath.
During your journey, you also get a chance to visit the famous Tehri lake. At Tehri lake, you can indulge in various water sports. And visit the Tehri dam. It is the highest dam in India.
The Patangniya Top Trek in Chirbatiya is easily accessible from Delhi. Hence it is one of the best weekend gateways. And ideal for people living in and around Delhi.
During winters this trek receives 2-3 feet of Snowfall. Which makes it an awesome snow trek for the weekend.
Your journey will start at 11 pm on Day 0. Our team will pick you from the Akshardham metro station at 11 pm. And then you will drive towards Rishikesh. You will reach Rishikesh by 5-6 am.
From Rishikesh, you will continue your journey towards Chirbatiya village. The road to Chirbatiya passes through the famous Tehri lake and Tehri dam. After passing Tehri Lake, you will reach the famous Ghansali market. You will take a small halt here.
Ghansali is the last market before Chirbatiya. Hence, if you are short of cash, withdraw it from the ATM available in the market. From Ghansali, you will continue to drive towards Chirbatiya. It takes an hour from Ghansali to reach Chirbatiya. You will end your drive in chirbatiya at 10 pm.
After reaching Chirbatiya, you will have a filling lunch and then some rest. Post lunch, you head off for the trek towards Patangniya.
At the beginning of the trek, the trails climb up towards the left of the Chirbatiya market. You can see the road and widening valley below. Slowly continuing on the trail, you enter Pine tree forest and reach Chound. Chound is a small shepherd village with 3 houses amid a dense forest.
From here, the forest becomes denser with the addition of oak and rhododendron trees. You will find a lot of clear water streams in this section. On Crossing this section, you will reach Khalwa khark. It is above Khalwa village- which is a small goat village.
After that, a 20-minute trek will take you to Rai jheel- a man-made lake with a small mud hut in front. From the lake, the trail enters the dense forest and open to a vast lush green meadow with a view of the Gharwal Himalayas. This is the Patangniya Top. You will camp for the night at this meadow.
You will start with a delicious breakfast. Then you will trek down to Khalwa village. The trail from the campsite passes through the oak forest and is an easy descend. It will take around 2 hrs to reach the road head.
After that, you will drive back to Delhi via Tehri lake. You will reach Delhi by evening.
